Join fine wine specialist Alex Johnson DipºÚÁϳԹÏÍø to taste your way through some excellent wines from across Burgundy that still represent good value for money in this highly sought-after region

Event details

The wines of Burgundy remain some of the most sought-after in the world, yet rising prices coupled with fierce global demand have made the region increasingly difficult to navigate for the average enthusiast. Beyond the iconic names and trophy bottles, however, Burgundy still offers remarkable wines for those who know where to look.

Led by Burgundy enthusiast and fine wine specialist Alex Johnson DipºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, this tasting will explore how drinkers can still uncover value in one of the world’s most revered wine regions. Through a carefully curated line-up, attendees will discover overlooked appellations, emerging producers, and smart alternatives that capture the joy and complexity of Burgundy without the Grand Cru price tag.

Guests will enjoy the wines alongside a selection of French cheese from La Fromagerie.

About the presenter, Alex Johnson DipºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

Alex Johnson DipºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

Alex Johnson DipºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is a wine expert based in Northern Ireland. Since 2017 he has worked with leading Irish merchant, wholesaler, and retailer James Nicholson Wine, where he is Fine Wine Manager and contributes across both the buying and retail teams. James Nicholson Wine has been awarded the International Wine Challenge ‘Regional Merchant of the Year - Northern Ireland’ more than thirty times and, in 2024, was named ‘Single Site Retailer of the Year - UK’.

He graduated from the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Diploma in 2023, receiving the Derouet Jameson Award for outstanding performance. This award enabled him to join the Master of Wine Programme in 2024, where he is currently a Stage Two student. He has also gained hands-on experience through harvest and cellar work in Burgundy.

As Fine Wine Manager at JN Wine, Alex works closely with growers across Burgundy, helping to shape a portfolio that reflects both the established and emerging faces of the region. While Burgundy is often associated with scarcity and escalating prices, he is particularly interested in identifying wines that overdeliver within their category. Alongside advising clients on fine wine purchasing and investment, Alex is committed to championing the growers, villages, and regional wines that continue to offer authenticity, plenitude, and value within modern Burgundy.
